Sara Layne-Art

Hi, I am the Art teacher! The Arts have influenced me my entire life and I love to teach, so being an Art teacher is a perfect place for me!
I studied Studio Arts at Peabody College for Teachers at Vanderbilt University where I received my Bachelors degree, and Special Education at Lipscomb University where I earned my Masters degree.
My house is a busy place with my husband Richard, his mom Margaret, two cats, a tortoise, two turtles, a bearded dragon, my art studio geckos, two parrotlets, and lots of pet fish! We have two sons. My oldest son has a wife, a teenager, a one year old, and one on the way. My youngest son is a computer programmer, musician, and professional gamer. He has roommates and a cat!

She graduated with a degree in Elementary Education grades 1-8 and a Master's degree in Supervisor of Instructional Materials/ Library Science from Middle Tennessee State University. She has served as the Joseph Brown Elementary School librarian for 14 years. She loves working with the students at Joseph Brown Elementary School. Her library goal for students is to assist them in becoming independent life long library learners and to push students reading by assisting them to become lifelong readers. She believes that every child can read if they are given a book that sparks their individual interest. The more students read the better readers they will be. In addition to teaching her regular library classes, Mrs. Ellison also teaches the 4th grade Genius Hour Class and the JBES Bionic Bears Robotic Team. She continues to keep contact with many our her JBES students even after they leave JBES, she has spent numerous hours working with our former students through the CHS Band, where she worked on the Executive Band Booster Board for three years and continues to support this band for over 5 years and counting. She is originally from Georgia, but moved to Columbia in 1991 with her husband Randy and two sons, Chris and Mitch. Her sons are both graduates of CHS. She is the grandmother of five beautiful grandchildren. One of her grandsons is a graduate of CHS and the other four attend Maury County Schools. She loves to spent her spare time with her family hiking, exploring national and state parks and reading.
Caitlin Wicklund -Music
My name is Caitlin Richards. I grew up in New Jersey and moved to Tennessee when I was in high school. I graduated from MTSU with a bachelors degree in K-12 Vocal General Music Education. As an accomplished singer, I feel that an important part of early education is finding your voice and learning how to take care of it. I started my teaching career as a pre-k TA in Williamson County. After a year and a half I started an interim teaching position in Rutherford county which led to another interim in the same county. My first full time teaching position was here at Joseph Brown as the music teacher. This is my 4th year at Joseph Brown and I can’t imagine a better place to be. I also teach choir after school for 2nd-4th grade and we have a blast. In my off time I am a proud fur mom of two cats named Marlee and Macie. I visit my parents and my younger brother on the weekends and plan on getting married in the Fall of 2021.
